Dear Parishioners and Friends of Divine Mercy Parish,
How do people know we love them? When we love, we act; we comfort; we help; we show we care. We redouble our efforts during Lent, in a very focused way, in order to develop our spiritual stamina for living our faith well throughout the year. This is how we show both Jesus and our neighbor we love them. During this holy season of Lent, we continue our work for those who are sick and suffering, for those who need to experience the love and kindness of a simple act of love. Our 2022 Lenten Service Project is not about giving things up but about bringing joy and happiness to the lives of children and their families.
This year we are partnering with the Magic Yarn Project to provide whimsical, giggle-inducing character wigs and beanies to children who are battling cancer. These wigs and beanies invite children back into the world of imagination and play during a very difficult battle. The Magic Yarn Project has partnered with dozens of hospitals and nonprofits serving medically fragile kids all over the globe, from Walt Disney World to the Ukraine. They have sent over 30,000 wigs to all 50 states and over 52 countries with zero cost to children’s families.
As our 2022 Lenten Service Project, Divine Mercy Parish has committed to purchase and precut the yarn needed to create 500 wigs for children battling cancer. Chemotherapy treatments often leave young scalps too sensitive for traditional wigs, but yarn wigs are comfy, soft, and warm. They are a beacon of fun, laughter, and imagination during a frightening time. The demand for magic wigs grows daily! Every year, roughly 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide (including over 15,000 in the US). Thank you for your monetary donations so that we may be the heart and hands of Jesus to children and families in their time of need.
